NAKASEKE BOOM EXPLOSIVE KILLS ONE PERSON AT SCRAP COLLECTION BOOTH

One person has Thursday died after an explosive went off in Kapeeka town, Nakaseke district at a scrap collection booth.

According to police, an Unexploded Ordnance Explosive picked from an unknown place and brought to the metal waste collection point as scrap.

 

“This morning at around 0900 hours, we received information that an Unexploded Ordnance Explosive device exploded and killed one person identified as Mandela Alfred aged 24 years old. This incident has occurred in Kapeeka central village, Kapeeka parish, Kapeeka subcounty, Nakaseke district,” reads part of the statement released by Savanna regional police.

 

The incident happened at the booth which also doubled as a home to a one Robert Tumwete, a scrap business dealer in Kapeeka town.

 

 

 

“It’s alleged that the deceased had collected scrap objects containing an Unexploded Explosive Ordnance from an unknown place. And according to preliminary findings, it is suspected that the deceased was hitting the device which exploded and killed him instantly,” said police.

 

The object also hit and injured two people who were in the vicinity, identified as Anthony Asiimwe and Tukwasibwe Nelson who were evacuated to Nakaseke hospital for management.

 

The area spokesperson ASP Isa Semwogerere said that a general inquiry file vide GEF 16/2021 has been opened to investigate the incident.

 

Meanwhile, the owner of the business called Tumwete Robert is on the run.
