Egypt was one of the earliest homes of civilization and was,for a long time,the most famous place of learning in the ancient world. #Thousands of years before we were able to read or write in this country, #Egypt was noted in history ,and part of it's story is written in the Bible.In the day of pharaohs #tittle given to the ancient kings)the people of Egypt were brave warriors and hunters, great builders,and fine farmers.
Most of the towns and #villagers of Egypt lie in the valley of the#River Nile.It has been well said, #"Egypt is the Nile,and the Nile is Egypt".On both sides of this great river there is a strip of very fertile land.This is caused by the Nile overflowing it's #banks and leaving a layer of rich,black soil,in which crops such as maize,cotton,wheat and flax are grown.On either sides of the narrow strip of good land stretches the desert,a great waste of sand and rocks.
In olden days, #the Nile sometimes did not flood the valley,and there was famine in the Land
Some of the #kings were wise,however,and built large store houses in various parts of the country.In years of plenty the extra corn was kept in these buildings in case famine might follow.Nowadays,it is quite different.In order to prevent the flood water rushing to the sea,huge dams and canals have been built.These places store the water untill needed,and help the people grow large crops all the year round
