MARRIAGE: PROSPECTS AND PROBLEMS (PART 3)

In the last study, I said Solomon wrote three books of the Bible. Moreover, I said by the time he wrote the Song of Solomon, that he had married 60 wives and 80 concubines.

I know what will come to minds of some people is how can God inspired such a fellow to write the Bible? There is something you must understand.

You must be able to different a person from his office. The office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is different from General Muhammad Buhari. When a man sits in that office, he is empowered by the constitution.

If he asks you to do certain thing and you disobey, it is no longer Buhari that you disobey but the constitution that sets up that office. Therefore Buhari can do certain things in his capacity as the President of Nigeria, which he cannot do as a private citizen.

What I said has a backing in the Scripture. "And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

"And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; and not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad." Jn.11:49-52.

Caiaphas prophesied because there is anointing that goes with the office he occupied. As an individual, he might be a bad person. But when he stood in that office, he was a mouthpiece for God.

Solomon did not wrote the book as Solomon the polygamist. He wrote it by the anointing of his office as the king. "And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon." 1Kings 1:39.

Moreover, the impression the young people have about the Song of Solomon is wrong. It is not written for boyfriend and his girlfriend. It is for husband and his wife. A man should have a romantic relationship with his wife.

"Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

"Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee. Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

"Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished alwayswith her love. And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? Prov.5:15-20.

From the internal evidences of the three books written by Solomon. It is certain that the first book he wrote was the Song of Solomon because as at the time he wrote it he had only 60 wives and 80 concubines.

But we know before he died, the wives had become 300 and 700 concubines. It means he was still in his backslidden state, when he wrote the book.

The book of Ecclesiastes was written to chronicle his journey and expedition in the world. It is most certain that he wrote the book after he had been restored back to God, because of the way he concluded the book.

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is whole duty of man." Eccl.12:13.

By this time Solomon might have repented of all his evils. "For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil." Eccl.12:14.

If you marry many wives today, you cannot claim you are following Solomon because the king repented of all his evil deeds. It is evident in the book of Proverbs that he sticked with his first wife only.

"Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth." Prov.5:18. He had returned back to the woman he married when he was a youth.
