Kenyan boys band Sauti Sol has announced their break up after controlling the airwaves for 18 years. This group has given us some of the best hits and albums of a lifetime, from just when their career was picking up with 'Soma soma’ to 'Still the One'.

I first knew them with 'Still the One' hit song. I can't predict when I will stop listening to that jam. Sauti Sol has done albums but the one which stands out for me is 'Midnight Train', with a total of 13 songs, and all of them are hit songs. I have listened to albums from various artists across the globe but ‘Midnight Train’ stands out to be one of the best.

Back to their break up, it is painful but we all saw it coming, to me it has not surprised me. The boys' band started to concentrate on sideshows that we have always known. It was also evident that Bien Aime was doing much of the writing and vocals for the band and of course, this was going to bring difference especially now that they are all married.

When friends meet before marriage, they have a common goal to make it to the top of the world, they try as much as they can to stick together to the plan but after marriage, a third party is introduced who does not believe in the original dreams. This is the reality and it always hit hard in music.

Look at how P-Square used to control our airwaves, those boys could sing dance, and they gave us entertainment but immediately after getting married differences arose and they broke up. Even if they try to re-unite they will never be the original P-Square who gave us Ifunanya, Do Me, Personally, Beautiful Onyinye, No One Like You, and many more hits.

Elani use to be one of the best bands in Kenya and gave us hit songs like 'Milele’, Kooko, ‘and ‘Jana Usiku'. They met while still on campus and formed a band, immediately when they started getting married the band started to have problems and that is how it collapsed.

Marriage does not only break bands but it also kills individual artists for example King Kaka used to be one of the best rappers I know but after marrying Nana Owiti he lost it, instead of giving us music he is busy showing us how beautiful Nana is Nana. I can’t remember the last time he made a hit song. The same happened to Nadia Mukami after marrying Arrow Boy, she thinks Arrow Boy is more important than her music career.

We can confidently say marriage has killed SautiSol, I know Bien's spouse would have a pillow talk with him that he is overworking for the boys' band when he could have a solo music career. Of course, Bien is indeed going to shine, Chimano’s career will be dead, and he might relocate to the US with his lover.

Savara would struggle for a while but he can sing though he will hit only in collabos, Fancy Finger (Polycarp Otieno) will be a producer, I know he is a good producer and a guitarist.
Before their official break up, they promised us a world tour and an album, as one of their fans I will be waiting. I had been waiting to have money to attend Sauti Sol concert but they have just decided to break up while am still broke. I wish Sauti Sol well.

Wondering why I write about music every weekend.
