Last week’s High Court ruling upholding the ban on female genital mutilation has given a much-needed boost to organisations and institutions in the fore-front in the fight against the practise.

Not less impacted are the lives of women and girls spared from pain and unnecessary violation of their rights and dignity.

The ruling came weeks after President Uhuru Kenyatta signed an MoU with Samburu elders, with 22 hotspot county religious and cultural leaders in attendance, and committed to end FGM by 2022.

The news is particularly welcome in my home area among the Kuria people in Migori county.

A Makadara law court has ordered a 22-year-old nanny, who allegedly stabbed two of her employer’s children, to undergo a psychiatric test.

Gladys Naliaka Nalianya was arraigned on Monday before Makadara Chief Magistrate Angelo Kithinji but she did not take a plea after she refused to utter a word.

Bear footed Naliaka appeared in court holding her rubber shoes on her hands, a jacket wrapped around her waist while her head was covered with a white sweater.
She was supposed to answer to charges of attempted murder.

A pastor in Nyeri has today morning launched an operation to remove and destroy all posters advertising 'wagangas' in the town.

The pastor says it is unfair that crusades or any religious meeting are charged for placing adverts while the 'Wagangas'' erect their banners freely even outside major offices.

"We should wake up and remove all those posters in our towns and uplift the Altar of Jesus Christ. There's no room for witchcraft and devil worshipping any more." says the pastor.

Three years after his demise, the Nairobi County Assembly has honoured former Ford-Asili party leader Kenneth Matiba by renaming a road within the Central Business District after him.

This comes after the MCAs last week on Thursday passed a motion to rename Accra Road after the veteran politician.Matiba passed away on April 18, 2018, at Karen Hospital at the age of 85.

In the motion which was moved by Nairobi Central Ward MCA Daniel Ngegi, the MCAs raised concerns that not much had been done to honour Matiba despite his enormous contributions to Kenya.
